Piazza Navona is one of the most famous and picturesque squares in Rome, Italy. Situated in the historic center of the city, it is renowned for its stunning Baroque architecture, vibrant atmosphere, and lively street performances.
Originally built as a stadium by Emperor Domitian in the 1st century AD, Piazza Navona was transformed into a public square in the 15th century. Today, it is home to three magnificent fountains and several notable buildings, including the Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone.
The centerpiece of Piazza Navona is the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers), designed by the Baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the 17th century. The fountain features four towering statues representing the major rivers of the continents known at the time: the Nile, Ganges, Danube, and Rio de la Plata.
